Meli Perea was born in Bogotá, Colombia, with roots along the banks of the Magdalena River. She carries the flavor of the Caribbean and the strength of the capital in her veins. Her music blends the warmth and rhythms of Afro-Colombian sounds with influences from electronic music. From her early days freestyling on the streets of Bogotá to her deep dive into Caribbean folklore, Meli has cultivated an authentic, vibrant, and lively style.
Her solo project as Meli Perea began in 2023, after she emigrated to Spain during the pandemic. This new chapter marked the beginning of a musical journey that allowed her to explore and solidify her artistic identity in a completely new environment.
In “Prisma” (Guspira Records, 2023), Meli began to define and explore her own musical identity. This album tells the stories of ten different characters through a dialogue between rap, Latin rhythms, electronic music, and Afro-Colombian sounds.
Over the past year, Meli has continued to grow as an artist, performing more than 20 gigs across Spain, including notable appearances at BIME Bilbao, Barraques de Reus, FIM Vila-seca, the Mercat de Música Viva de Vic, and BAM Cultura Viva during Barcelona’s La Mercè Festival.
Additionally, she recently released the singles “Lodo”, a fresh fusion of electronic music with latin rhythms and “Me Llama La Tierra”, which blends influences like Afrotech, inviting listeners to reconnect with their roots, nature, and the rural essence within us all.
Currently, her project has evolved into a full band format with six talented musicians, including percussion, guitar, saxophone, trumpet, and a DJ set. Together, they create a vibrant and energetic musical experience, bringing an explosion of sounds and emotions to the stage that leaves no one indifferent.
In 2025, Meli released her latest EP Entre Caminos, a turning point in her artistic journey. This bold, mature project merges electronic music and Latin rhythms, reinforcing her identity and expanding her sound.
The EP has led to 20 performances, including a show in Viena at Fania Live. Now she is working on her second solo album to be released at the end of 2025, Meli continues to explore new sonic landscapes, staying true to her roots while looking forward with creativity and authenticity.
