Elana Sasson Quartet is a Persian, Kurdish, & Mediterranean music ensemble, playing contemporary arrangements of traditional music & compositions that oscillate between east and west, modern and ancient, with jazz harmonic language and grooves inspired by Latin and Middle Eastern traditions. Led by the powerful, emotional voice of Elana Sasson, a Kurdish/Persian-American vocalist trained in the modal arts of Iran and Kurdistan, the Valencia-based quartet is made up of international musicians from Cyprus, Colombia, and Belgium, who each take inspiration from the folkloric traditions of their heritages. The band both honors folkloric roots while reimagining this music in a contemporary setting.
